Today is La Chandeleur, the french holiday that we've grown to only know as Crepe Day. However, there's a lot more to it than that! It is actually a religious holiday, February 2 believed to be the day that Jesus was presented to the temple in Jerusalem. It is celebrated by the French each year through eating crepes, lighting candles, and partaking in superstitious activities while doing so! 🇫🇷🥞 Two years ago, this holiday was introduced to me by quite possibly the best French teacher on the planet, my second and fourth year French professor. In order to make this fit into my niche, not only did I make crepes from scratch, I actually made Crepes Suzette, crepes filled with orange butter, and flambéed with Cognac and Grand Marnier. What could honor the holiday more than making crepes and lighting them on fire? As Valentine's Day gets closer, I'm loving a few different things: champagne, red, pink, and chocolate. I don't know why I associate these things so closely with February, but I'm assuming it's due to marketing and media exposure over the course of my entire life! Either way, it's great! 🍾🥂 Here, I have a simple cocktail: the Kir Royale. If you haven't had one before, you're missing out! Not only is it one of the easiest drinks to make, using only two ingredients and no other manipulation required, it's easy to dress it up and make it look luxurious and fancy with very little effort. The two ingredients in a Kir Royale are crème de cassis and champagne. For garnish, I typically use an amarena cherry on a pick, but here I'm just using red currants!
